Turning Point USA unveiled a brand new eight-foot statue of Charlie Kirk at their Phoenix headquarters on Thursday. By Sunday morning, it was already spray-painted.
That’s not even a week.
The statue was installed to mark the anniversary of Kirk’s death, and TPUSA wasted no time turning it into a full-blown production, complete with a poster memorial display out front. Someone hit both the statue and the poster with red spray paint overnight, and the organization’s reaction was, well, a lot.
TPUSA’s COO posted that the vandal allegedly wrote “Satan” on a nearby sign and called the whole thing “diabolical,” adding that “evil never sleeps.” Erika Kirk chimed in too, declaring that spray paint would only “spread” her husband’s legacy “further.”
It’s spray paint. On a statue. That lasted less than 72 hours.
Somewhere between “we’re building monuments” and “evil never sleeps,” TPUSA managed to turn a can of Krylon into an apocalyptic showdown between good and darkness. Even the Maricopa County Attorney felt compelled to weigh in publicly on a paint job.
Statues get vandalized all the time. It happens to war memorials, to founding fathers, to just about anything bolted to a public sidewalk. But apparently when it happens to this one, it’s a five-alarm spiritual crisis instead of a Tuesday.
Maybe don’t build an eight-foot bronze target and act shocked when someone brings a paint can.
