Dan Bongino Warns Obama After DOJ Comments Spark Firestorm

Former Dan Bongino publicly criticized former President Barack Obama after Obama accused the Trump administration of politicizing the Department of Justice. The dispute intensified ongoing national debate over whether federal law enforcement agencies are being used for political purposes.

The controversy began after Obama appeared on a program hosted by Stephen Colbert, where he argued that the White House should not direct criminal prosecutions against political opponents. Obama said the attorney general is supposed to serve the public independently rather than act as a political adviser to the president. His comments came amid growing attention surrounding investigations and indictments involving several critics or former associates of President Donald Trump, including former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and former National Security Adviser John Bolton.

Bongino responded sharply during a public appearance, suggesting Obama himself could face scrutiny related to the origins of the Trump-Russia investigation and allegations of political weaponization during the 2016 presidential transition period. Although Bongino hinted that he possessed additional information, he did not specify any evidence or details supporting his claims. His remarks nevertheless fueled speculation among Trump supporters that further investigations connected to the Russia probe could occur.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche also defended the administration against accusations of politicization. In an interview with CBS News, Blanche argued that criticism from Democrats was unfair given the investigations and prosecutions Trump faced during the Biden administration. He maintained that the Constitution grants executive authority to the president and allows the White House to direct policy priorities within the Justice Department.

The debate intensified further following legal developments involving Comey. Prosecutors reportedly charged him in North Carolina over a 2025 social media post featuring seashells arranged to display the numbers “86 47,” which authorities interpreted as a possible threat toward Trump. Comey denied any violent intent and removed the post after concerns were raised.

Conservative commentators, including Mollie Hemingway, have also revived criticism of Obama over the origins of the Russia investigation, accusing his administration of helping fuel the “Russia collusion” narrative following Trump’s 2016 election victory. Obama and his allies have consistently denied such allegations.
