Moscow’s immediate reaction to Trump’s remarks about war

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on the state of relations between Russia and the United States, stating that recent diplomatic efforts have not produced meaningful progress. He noted that although attempts were made to reduce tensions between Moscow and Washington—particularly initiatives associated with former U.S. President Donald Trump—the overall results have been limited, with little tangible improvement in bilateral relations.

According to Peskov, Russia continues to view the situation in Ukraine as a central national priority and maintains that it has no alternative but to continue its military operations. He emphasized that ongoing efforts by the United States to shift its stance on Ukraine have further complicated diplomatic engagement and slowed any potential rapprochement.

Peskov also responded to symbolic language used by Western leaders regarding Russia, rejecting comparisons that he considered inaccurate. He reiterated the Kremlin’s position that Russia remains strong and resilient, describing it metaphorically as a “real bear,” in contrast to external characterizations intended to diminish its power. He further stated that Russia’s economy, while facing certain pressures, remains stable overall and capable of sustaining its strategic objectives.

In his remarks, Peskov reinforced the Kremlin’s view that the military campaign in Ukraine will continue, framing it as necessary for national interests and future security. He also claimed that Russian forces are making advances across multiple operational directions, suggesting continued momentum on the battlefield.

Overall, the statement reflects Russia’s consistent public messaging: limited expectation of diplomatic breakthrough with the West, emphasis on internal resilience, and a firm commitment to continuing military action in Ukraine despite international pressure and ongoing conflict dynamics.
