A routine stop at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Texas escalated into a serious federal criminal case that ultimately resulted in prison time for 26-year-old Kevin Dominguez. According to federal court records, the incident took place on August 1, 2023, at a Border Patrol checkpoint along U.S. Highway 57 during standard immigration enforcement operations.
The encounter began when a Border Patrol K9 unit alerted agents to potential concealed activity inside Dominguez’s sedan. Upon inspecting the vehicle, agents discovered an undocumented individual hidden in the trunk. Prosecutors stated that after the discovery, Dominguez attempted to flee the checkpoint by shifting the vehicle into reverse. During the escape attempt, a federal agent was struck by the vehicle before Dominguez sped away from the scene.
Authorities later apprehended Dominguez, and federal prosecutors charged him with assaulting a federal officer and transporting an individual unlawfully present in the United States.
