Tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah have intensified as Hezbollah announced the launch of a new military operation against Israel.
According to Israeli media, the group carried out its largest attack since fighting resumed, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict along the Israel-Lebanon border.
On the evening of the reported attacks, Hezbollah fired approximately 100 rockets toward northern Israel, triggering air raid sirens across the region. The Israeli military also reported detecting missiles launched from Iran. Reuters reported that this marked the first known coordinated attack involving both Hezbollah and Iran since the latest military campaign began.
In response, Israel conducted a new wave of airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon. Israeli media reported that the country’s military chief ordered elite forces previously deployed in the Gaza Strip to reinforce the northern front, signaling preparations for a potentially broader confrontation with Hezbollah.
Lebanese state media reported that the renewed hostilities have resulted in 634 deaths in Lebanon since fighting resumed, highlighting the growing humanitarian toll of the conflict.
Meanwhile, CNN reported indications that Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement may also be preparing missile attacks against Israel, raising concerns that the conflict could expand into a wider regional confrontation involving multiple Iranian-backed groups. The escalating exchanges have heightened fears of a broader Middle East conflict with significant regional and international consequences.
