Dramatic video shows gunman trying to rush past security at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

Dramatic security incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., where a gunman allegedly attempted to breach security, prompting chaos and a rapid response from law enforcement. According to the account, security footage released by Donald Trump captured the suspect, identified as Cole Allen of Torrance, California, running past security personnel at the Washington Hilton, the venue hosting the high-profile event attended by more than 2,500 journalists, officials, and guests.

The report states that Allen managed to move through an initial checkpoint where attendees’ credentials were verified, but more stringent screening measures—such as magnetometers—were in place closer to the ballroom. Authorities believe Allen, who had reportedly booked a room at the hotel, attempted to bypass this reinforced perimeter. As he rushed forward, security agents responded immediately, drawing their weapons and pursuing him. Multiple gunshots were reportedly fired during the confrontation.

Law enforcement officers ultimately subdued and detained the suspect. He was allegedly found in possession of two firearms and several knives. During the incident, a Secret Service officer sustained a minor injury after being struck while wearing a bulletproof vest. Officials, including Interim D.C. Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll, indicated that Allen is believed to have acted alone.

The suspect’s background, as described in the text, includes work as a teacher and video game developer, along with a degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Following his arrest, Allen faces multiple charges, including discharging a firearm during a crime and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro. He is scheduled for arraignment on April 27.

As the situation unfolded, President Trump and other top officials were quickly evacuated from the ballroom under security protocols, despite Trump reportedly expressing reluctance to leave. In the aftermath, Trump indicated that the event would be rescheduled within about 30 days. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of maintaining security at major public gatherings, even those with established protocols and controlled access.
