After everything the world has witnessed in Gaza, unconditional support for the Israeli government’s actions is morally indefensible.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have reportedly been killed. Entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, most residents have endured displacement, and families continue searching for loved ones buried beneath destroyed buildings. Children have lost parents, schools, homes, limbs, and futures. Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly documented severe shortages of food, shelter, medical care, and essential equipment.
Supporting the safety and human rights of Israeli civilians does not require excusing what has been inflicted upon Palestinian civilians. Condemning Hamas’s October 7 atrocities does not require granting any government unlimited permission to bomb, displace, or deprive an entire population. Human rights cannot depend on nationality.
People may disagree about history, borders, or political solutions. But continued indifference to mass civilian suffering is not a harmless difference of opinion.
The question is no longer whether the devastation is visible. It is visible to everyone. The question is what people are willing to excuse—and whose lives they have decided matter less.
