Ukrainian forces reportedly stopped a Russian armored assault near Huliaipole on the Zaporizhzhia front after reconnaissance detected two armored personnel carriers carrying approximately 20 Russian soldiers. According to Ukraine’s 225th Separate Assault Regiment, 19 Russian troops were killed and the sole survivor surrendered. The reported figures come from the Ukrainian side and have not been independently verified.
The incident highlights the growing importance of reconnaissance and unmanned systems on the battlefield. Ukrainian forces reportedly identified the Russian vehicles before they reached their intended target, allowing artillery, FPV drones, and larger strike drones to engage the column. The operation demonstrates how persistent aerial surveillance can expose armored movements and reduce the effectiveness of attempts to approach Ukrainian defensive positions undetected.
According to the report, the Russian vehicles were moving toward Ukrainian drone teams, apparently seeking to disrupt the reconnaissance and strike capabilities monitoring Russian movements. Instead, the attacking force was detected before reaching those positions and came under coordinated Ukrainian fire.
Ukraine has also reportedly targeted infrastructure supporting Russia’s operations in the Huliaipole sector. Strikes against bridges near Polohy and Ukrainske were intended to disrupt transportation routes, while Russian drone-control positions were targeted to interfere with battlefield surveillance and strike coordination. An ammunition depot was also reportedly hit.
These operations form part of Ukraine’s broader effort to slow Russian advances toward Orikhiv by attacking both frontline units and the logistics network supporting them.
