Belarus is strengthening its military posture near Ukraine as Russia expands military infrastructure and drone capabilities across the region. A newly established 37th Air Assault Brigade near Gomel, reportedly only about 40 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, adds another military formation to an increasingly sensitive area along Ukraine’s northern flank.
Ukraine has responded by heavily fortifying its approximately 1,085-kilometer border with Belarus. Defensive preparations are intended to reduce the risk of a renewed northern offensive and prevent Russian or Belarusian forces from exploiting the border to divert Ukrainian troops from the eastern front.
