‘You’re Fake News…’: Trump Erupts at Reporter Over Vote-By-Mail Fraud Claims, Poll Numbers

President Donald Trump is facing renewed questions about his position on mail-in voting as he encourages his supporters to use mail ballots despite years of criticism of the voting method. During recent remarks, Trump said Republicans could vote by mail, vote early or cast ballots in person in the November 3 midterm elections. Reuters reported that the shift represents a notable change from his longstanding claims that mail voting is vulnerable to widespread fraud.

Trump has continued to raise concerns about election integrity, including criticism of officials in Arizona’s Maricopa County after a vendor mistakenly mailed 3,126 early ballots six days ahead of schedule. County officials said the ballots went to the correct voters and remain valid, while the mistake was attributed to human error by the vendor.

During exchanges with reporters, Trump also rejected questions about his political standing and criticized CNN as “fake news,” maintaining that his polling numbers were strong. Recent Reuters/Ipsos polling, however, placed his approval rating at 32%, while registered voters preferred Democrats over Republicans by 44% to 37% when asked which party they would support in the midterms.

The broader discussion has included election administration in states such as California and Michigan, as well as issues involving Canada, Iran and Russia. Trump’s comments come as election officials across the country prepare for increased scrutiny and possible disputes over voting procedures.

The episode highlights the continuing tension between Trump’s election-integrity claims and his decision to encourage Republican supporters to use mail voting as the midterms approach.
