PUTIN’S MONSTER: Kadyrov’s Private Army Prepares for CIVIL WAR

Ramzan Kadyrov’s growing influence in Chechnya is raising questions about the balance of power between the regional leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Kadyrov commands heavily armed security forces loyal to him, giving him significant influence within Chechnya and a prominent role in Russia’s war against Ukraine. However, claims that his forces now operate entirely outside Moscow’s control require independent verification.

The Kremlin has long relied on Kadyrov to maintain stability in Chechnya, a region that experienced two devastating wars after the collapse of the Soviet Union. In return for political loyalty, his administration has enjoyed considerable autonomy. Allegations that Moscow has used seized foreign or corporate assets to reward Kadyrov, or that he has used his position to pursue private vendettas against wealthy Russians, raise questions about accountability and the limits of federal authority.

Succession is another potential source of tension. Reports and speculation about Kadyrov’s health have prompted questions about who might eventually lead Chechnya. His teenage son has been mentioned in discussions about the family’s political future, but claims of an imminent illegal succession plan or an impending confrontation with Russia’s Federal Security Service remain unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, economic pressures and regional grievances in parts of Russia, including Dagestan and Bashkortostan, add to the challenges facing the federal government. These issues do not necessarily indicate that civil war or state collapse is imminent.

The broader concern is whether Moscow can maintain regional loyalty while managing wartime costs, powerful local elites, and competing political interests. Kadyrov’s relationship with Putin remains an important factor in Russia’s internal stability, but predictions of an imminent national fracture should be treated cautiously until supported by credible evidence.
