Trump Administration Launches Major Prescription Drug Price Reduction Platform
President Donald Trump announced the launch of TrumpRx.gov, a new federal online platform designed to slash out-of-pocket costs for many popular medications by up to 80% for millions of Americans. The initiative, unveiled at the White House, represents one of the most aggressive efforts yet to address high U.S. drug prices and is being promoted as a fulfillment of a key campaign promise.
The program operates through Most-Favored-Nation pricing agreements with pharmaceutical manufacturers. Drug companies participating agree to offer Americans prices at or below what they charge patients in other developed countries. Rather than selling drugs itself, TrumpRx.gov serves as a centralized hub that connects patients directly with manufacturers, providing access to discounted direct-purchase options, coupons, and special pricing that bypass traditional pharmacy benefit managers and middlemen. Users can search by drug name for the best available deals, with prices updated daily.
The initial focus is on high-cost medications that strain household budgets, particularly GLP-1 diabetes and weight-loss drugs, as well as fertility treatments. Examples of dramatic price cuts include:
Ozempic: From ~$1,028 to ~$350 per month (some doses as low as $199)
Wegovy: From $1,349 to similar reduced pricing (oral version as low as $149)
Zepbound: From $1,088 to ~$346 (some doses near $299)
Fertility drugs: Gonal-F as low as $168 per pen, Cetrotide from $316 to $22.50, Ovidrel from $251 to $84
Administration officials estimate the program could save Americans billions of dollars annually. Over 40 manufacturers have already joined, with more expected soon. Additional high-impact drugs for conditions like heart disease, cancer, asthma, and autoimmune disorders are slated for inclusion later this year.
Trump described the platform as “the biggest thing to happen in health care in many decades,” criticizing past bipartisan failures on drug pricing. The White House called it a direct victory for patients over special interests. Trump urged Congress to pass his proposed “Great Healthcare Plan” to make the Most-Favored-Nation pricing permanent, enforce full price transparency, and integrate the platform with insurance coverage.
While industry analysts view the model as potentially transformative, its long-term success will depend on continued pharmaceutical cooperation and sustained political support. The rollout begins immediately, with patients encouraged to visit TrumpRx.gov for real-time pricing and savings.
