Fires Burn at Iran Base After Failed Extraction Forces Aircraft Destruction

Fires continue to burn at a forward operations base in southern Iran used by U.S. Special Forces during last night’s mission to rescue the Weapons System Officer (WSO) of a downed F-15E Strike Eagle. Officials report that while the extraction operation successfully recovered the WSO, U.S. forces encountered significant difficulties during their departure from the region.

As a result of these complications, two transport aircraft—likely C-130 Hercules—were deliberately destroyed to prevent them from being captured by Iranian forces. The incident underscores the high risks associated with operations in hostile territory, highlighting both the strategic complexity of combat search-and-rescue missions and the measures taken to safeguard sensitive military assets.

Fires at the base reportedly remain active, illustrating the intensity of the operation and its aftermath. The mission reflects the ongoing challenges faced by U.S. forces operating in contested areas and the lengths taken to ensure personnel recovery while minimizing the risk of enemy exploitation of U.S. equipment.
