C-130s Destroyed During Withdrawal from Iran After Special Forces Mission

Reports and circulating images appear to show the charred remains of two U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft at a temporary forward operations base in southern Iran, used during a high-risk mission to rescue a downed F-15E crew member. According to multiple reports, the aircraft became immobilized during the extraction phase of the operation.

U.S. forces reportedly made the decision to deliberately destroy the planes on the ground to prevent sensitive equipment and technology from falling into Iranian hands—a standard military “denial” procedure in such situations.

The incident occurred after the successful recovery of the rescued airman, but amid complications during the withdrawal from hostile territory. Some images and claims circulating online remain unverified, and official confirmation from U.S. defense authorities has been limited.

The event underscores the complexity and risks of deep-penetration rescue missions, as well as the strategic importance of safeguarding military assets during operations in contested environments.
