Christina Koch to Lead New Chapter in Deep Space Exploration

Christina Koch is set to make history aboard Artemis II as the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit and journey around the Moon. This milestone comes more than 50 years after the Apollo missions, reflecting a major shift in human spaceflight.

As a mission specialist, she will help test critical Orion systems, including navigation, life support, and communication during the 10-day mission. Her previous achievements, including long-duration spaceflight and historic spacewalks, highlight her readiness for deep space operations.

This mission represents more than technical progress, showing how space exploration is evolving to include broader representation. Artemis II sets the stage for future missions while expanding opportunities in human spaceflight.
