Vance Says DOJ Is Investigating Ilhan Omar Amid Growing Scrutiny

Vice President J.D. Vance said during a White House briefing that the Department of Justice is reviewing matters related to Ilhan Omar, intensifying political attention on the Minnesota congresswoman ahead of upcoming elections.

The issue arose when a reporter asked Vance about long-standing allegations involving Omar’s immigration history, marriage timeline, campaign finances, and other controversies that have circulated for years. While Vance declined to discuss specific details, he suggested that federal authorities are examining the matter and stated that any potential wrongdoing would be investigated under the law.

Vance emphasized that everyone deserves equal treatment under the justice system and said that if investigators determine a crime occurred, prosecution would follow. His remarks represented one of the strongest public indications from the administration that federal officials may be reviewing allegations connected to Omar.

Neither the Department of Justice nor Omar’s office immediately commented on the vice president’s statements. Omar has consistently denied wrongdoing and has previously characterized accusations against her as politically motivated attacks. Over the years, critics have raised questions about various issues involving her personal relationships, tax matters, campaign finances, and immigration history, but no criminal charges have been filed against her regarding those allegations.

The renewed attention also comes amid ongoing debate surrounding the massive Feeding Our Future fraud case in Minnesota, one of the largest pandemic-related fraud investigations in U.S. history. Some Republican lawmakers have attempted to connect Omar to organizations or individuals involved in that scandal, particularly through her support for expanded food assistance programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier efforts by Minnesota Republicans to compel Omar to provide documents or testimony related to the matter were unsuccessful after Democrats blocked the proposal in committee.

Vance’s comments are expected to increase political pressure on Omar and may become part of broader Republican campaign messaging focused on corruption, accountability, and government oversight. At the same time, the vice president did not provide evidence of criminal conduct, identify the exact scope of any inquiry, or specify what allegations federal authorities may be examining.

As a result, significant questions remain unanswered about whether a formal investigation exists, what issues are under review, and whether any legal action will ultimately result. For now, the controversy remains largely political, but Vance’s remarks have ensured that Omar will remain a prominent topic of discussion as attention shifts toward the 2026 election cycle.
