BREAKING NEWS: CHAOS OUTSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE….See more

A shooting near the White House on the evening of May 23, 2026, triggered panic, a temporary lockdown, and a massive response from the U.S. Secret Service. Authorities say 21-year-old Nasire Best of Maryland approached a security checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, pulled a handgun from a bag, and opened fire on officers guarding the area. Secret Service personnel immediately returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Witnesses, including members of the White House press corps, reported hearing multiple gunshots and were ordered to take cover. Journalists on the White House grounds were rushed into secure locations while agents locked down the area. President Donald Trump was reportedly inside the White House at the time but was not harmed.

Investigators later revealed that Best was already known to federal authorities. Court records show he had previously attempted to enter White House checkpoints in 2025, allegedly claiming he was Jesus Christ and seeking arrest. He was arrested, ordered to stay away from the area, and later failed to appear for a court hearing.

An innocent bystander was also struck by gunfire during the incident and suffered serious injuries. Authorities have not yet determined whether the wound was caused by the suspect’s bullets or by return fire from responding officers. Multiple investigations remain ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the shooting and security response.
