If you believe Donald Trump personally helped clear rubble at Ground Zero on 9/11, you are believing a story unsupported by the available evidence.
Trump was photographed and interviewed near Ground Zero on September 13, 2001—two days after the attacks. During that appearance, he claimed that he had more than 100 employees there and that additional workers were coming. Years later, his account evolved into claims that he had helped “a little bit” with clearing rubble and had taken an entire construction crew to assist.
But fact-checkers have found no official records, photographs, videos, or witnesses confirming that Trump or hundreds of his employees participated in the supervised rescue and recovery operation. A retired FDNY deputy chief who worked at Ground Zero for months said he had no knowledge of Trump or his crew working there and explained that participating personnel would have operated under official supervision.
Being photographed near the site afterward is not the same as digging through debris beside first responders.
The documented heroes of 9/11 risked—and sometimes sacrificed—their lives. Trump does not get to insert himself into their work without providing evidence.
