Gallup Poll Shows Young Men Now More Religious Than Young Women in U.S.

A new Gallup poll shows shifting religious attitudes among young adults in the United States, finding that men aged 18 to 29 are now more likely than women in the same age group to say religion is “very important” in their lives. According to the survey, 42% of young men reported high religious importance compared to 29% of young women, marking a notable gender gap. Gallup also notes this represents a 14-point increase in religious importance among young men since 2022–2023, suggesting a rising trend in religiosity within this demographic.

Earlier data indicated the opposite pattern, with young women previously reporting slightly higher religious engagement than men. In 2022–2023, 32% of women and 28% of men in the same age group said religion was very important to them. The recent reversal highlights changing social and cultural dynamics among younger Americans.

The report also connects broader religious and political trends in the United States, noting strong support for Donald Trump among white Christian voters. A Pew Research Center poll shows that 82% of white evangelical voters supported Trump in the 2024 election, along with 61% of white Catholics. In contrast, Black Protestants, Hispanic Catholics, and Jewish voters tended to support Democratic candidates in greater numbers.

The article also references controversy surrounding Trump after he posted and later deleted an AI-generated image depicting himself in religious imagery, including one showing him as Jesus. The post drew criticism from both political opponents and some allies, including former Republican officials who warned it could distract from key campaign issues such as economic affordability ahead of upcoming elections.

Polling cited in the report is based on a sample of 145 women and 295 men aged 18–29, with a margin of error of approximately 7 to 10 percentage points, indicating moderate uncertainty but still reflecting a noticeable trend in youth religious attitudes.
