Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Attack on Moscow Region
A major Ukrainian drone attack targeted Moscow and surrounding areas overnight on August 16, with Russian authorities saying around 600 drones were heading toward the Moscow region.
One of the facilities hit was a large logistics warehouse belonging to Wildberries, one of Russia’s largest online retailers, in Koledino near Podolsk.
The strike triggered a major fire at the warehouse, while another logistics facility in Domodedovo was also reported to be on fire.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the attack as one of the largest drone attacks targeting the capital region in recent times.
Russian authorities said hundreds of drones were intercepted or destroyed, while the attacks caused fires and damage at several locations.
Separately, Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian overnight missile and drone strikes killed at least five people in Ukraine. The attacks mark another major escalation in long-range strikes between the two sides.
